Seat-sharing formula, logo release, announcing convenor among agenda of INDIA meet in Mumbai

Leaders of the INDIA alliance are set to meet at a two-day conclave in Mumbai during which they are likely to announce a coordination committee and a logo.

The conclave scheduled for August 31 and September 1 will involve leaders unveiling panels aimed at drafting a common minimum program for the alliance, coordinating nationwide protests, and determining seat allocations.

The INDIA bloc is also anticipated to announce a secretariat in the national capital for efficient coordination among members.

The conclave will also address the topic of appointing an alliance coordinator or chairperson.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday said as many as 63 representatives from 28 political parties will attend the third meeting of the INDIA alliance.

Veteran socialist leader and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav said, “The agenda will be to make preparations for the times ahead. Elections are approaching. If candidates have to be decided, we need to sit together.”

When asked about the convener for the INDIA alliance, he said, “It will be decided tomorrow.”

The INDIA bloc’s first meeting was held in Patna in June, while the second one took place in Bengaluru in mid-July. The Bengaluru conclave had finalised the name of the alliance — Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA).

The Congress leaders, meanwhile, have claimed that 4 to 5 political parties of the BJP-led NDA bloc are in touch with the INDIA alliance and some of them will join the opposition bloc in the coming days.
