A press conference was organised by Students Islamic Organisation on Friday where Fatima Nafees, mother of missing Najeeb Ahmed, called for the dismantling of the current investigating team. Fathima Nafees demanded a judicial inquiry monitored by the high court. She said that she has “lost all faith in the police”. “I don’t trust them any more, for they have always lied to me,” she said, adding that she has been trying to get an appointment with the HRD minister to no avail. ” If the police were serious enough, they could easily find him.” She added. Najeeb Ahmed, a first-year M.Sc biotechnology student of JNU was assaulted by ABVP activists at his hostel room and has been missing since October 15 last year.
The SIO national leaders demanded steps to ensure the safety of minority students at higher educational institutions. In this regard they had collected almost 2.5 million signatures across the nation and will submit it to the national commission for minorities.
