Tamil Nadu minister and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin has slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah for what he called “Hindi imposition,” arguing that a language spoken in 4-5 states doesn’t unite the country.
Criticising Amit Shah’s remark on the occasion of “Hindi Diwas”, Udhayanidhi Stalin said in a post on X: “‘I strongly condemn the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah claiming that Hindi is the uniting force of India and it is empowering other regional languages.”
“While we are speaking Tamil here, Kerala speaks Malayalam. Where does Hindi merge with and empower us? Amit Shah should stop oppressing non-Hindi languages by calling them just regional languages,” he wrote.
Udhayanidhi further said that it was absurd to say that Hindi, spoken in four or five states, unites the entire nation.
“Hindi is spoken only in four or five states in the Country and hence the statement of Amit Shah is totally absurd. It is only another version of imposing Hindi under the guise of generating livelihood,” he said, ending his post with #StopHindiImposition.
On Thursday, Amit Shah said Hindi unites the diversity of languages in India and it has honoured different Indian as well as global languages and dialects.
