Coronavirus: PM Modi announces nationwide lockdown from midnight

“From 12 AM tonight there will be a complete lockdown across the country due to coronavirus outbreak”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Tuesday.

This nationwide lockdown will be for 21 days beginning on Wednesday.

“We may have to pay financial cost for this lockdown but it is important for safety of people, PM said.

Modi also added that this lockdown is in a way curfew and would be more stringent than Janta curfew.

The number of coronavirus cases in India rose to 519 on Tuesday, according to Health Ministry data.

According to the figures updated at 5.45 pm, the number of active COVID-19 cases are 470 while 40 people have been cured, discharged or migrated.

A 65-year-old coronavirus patient died in Mumbai on Monday evening, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said.
