Delhi: 17-year-old boy tied to pole, beaten to death; 2 arrested

“He wanted to buy noodles and snacks for us. He told us he will go with a friend. Why would he break into someone’s house and commit theft? The accused killed our boy to show dominance in the area,” said the boy’s uncle.

Two men were arrested a day after a 17-year-old boy was tied to a pole and beaten to death by a mob in Shahdara.

Kalim (35) and Samir (21) were arrested by Delhi Police in connection with the case.

The deceased is survived by his mother and 21-year-old brother, according to Indian Express.

“He wanted to buy noodles and snacks for us. He told us he will go with a friend. Why would he break into someone’s house and commit theft? The accused killed our boy to show dominance in the area,” said the boy’s uncle.

Senior officers stated that although the police initially speculated that the boy was murdered due to suspected theft, they are currently conducting an investigation and carrying out searches to identify any other accused in the lynching.

“We are not sure of the exact sequence of events. We may add other stringent sections to the FIR based on autopsy report,” an officer said to Indian Express. The boy’s legs were injured and his hair was also chopped, the officer added.
