IIT-Madras, Birmingham University to offer joint PG degree in AI, Data Science

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras and the University of Birmingham will jointly offer a post graduation programme in data science and artificial intelligence.

According to the institute, this marks the first educational collaboration between an IIT and a prestigious UK Russell Group university. Under this partnership, students will have the opportunity to study at the campuses in Birmingham and Chennai and earn a jointly awarded degree from both institutions.

Additionally, students will be engaged in a significant research undertaking.

To apply, interested individuals can obtain the application form from https://ge.iitm.ac.in/birmingham/.

The deadline for submission is June 11th.

According to Adam Tickell, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Birmingham, the incorporation of research-informed teaching will position students at the forefront of rapidly evolving fields like data science and AI.

Students have two options available to them. They can choose to spend five months in the U.K. before returning to the Institute to complete the program and undertake a research project at IIT-M. Alternatively, they can opt to stay in the U.K. for a year, complete the program and research project in Birmingham, while the coursework will commence at IIT Madras.

V. Kamakoti, the director of the institute, expressed anticipation for a productive partnership with the university. Students holding a bachelor’s degree in Science and Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks are eligible to apply.

Candidates who have scored over 75% marks in English in Class 12 in CBSE/CISCE/West Bengal board or over 80% in English from other Indian State boards are exempt from submitting TOEFL/IELTS/PTE test scores, except if the medium of instruction during their undergraduate studies was not English. Test scores, if required, must be provided at the time of enrollment for the program.
