Gujarat man poses as PMO official in Kashmir, visits border post, sent to jail

Kiran J Patel was able to deceive the Jammu and Kashmir administration and its security system by posing as a high-ranking official from the Prime Minister’s Office, and in doing so, he obtained a Z-plus security cover, a bulletproof Mahindra Scorpio SUV and an official accommodation at a luxurious five-star hotel.

kiran J Patel, a Gujarat resident has been arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police for posing as an official of the prime minister’s office.

Patel who held a series of meetings with officials during his two visits to Srinagar earlier this year, was impersonating an Additional Director for strategy and campaigns in the Prime Minister’s Office, NDTV reported on Friday.

Patel was arrested on 3 March, but his arrest was kept a secret by the police. On Thursday, details of his arrest emerged after a magistrate sent him to jail.

A first information report was filed against him on charges of cheating and forgery.

He was able to deceive the Jammu and Kashmir administration and its security system by posing as a high-ranking official from the Prime Minister’s Office, and in doing so, he obtained a Z-plus security cover, a bulletproof Mahindra Scorpio SUV and an official accommodation at a luxurious five-star hotel, reported NDTV.

Patel who has a verified Twitter account, is followed by Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gujarat General Secretary Pradipsinh Vaghela, among others.
