The Delhi Police on Sunday booked controversial Hindutva supremacist Yati Narsinghanand Giri for hate speech during an event Hindu Mahapanchayat in Delhi’s Burari area.
Other speakers at the event were also booked.
The police said they had lodged the first information report after taking legal opinion.
“Taking suo-motu cognisance, we have also booked the speakers for inflammatory speech,” an official said to Indian Express. “We have scanned the CCTV footage and identified some of the speakers.”
Yati Narsinghanand, the head priest of Ghaziabad’s Dasna Devi Temple and the main organiser of the Haridwar anti-Muslim genocidal event, Sunday exhorted Hindus to pick up arms.
“40% Hindus will be killed if India were to get a Muslim PM. This is the future of Hindus. If you want to change this, be a man. What is it to be a man? Someone who is armed,” said Narsinghanand.
The FIR was filed under Sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language etc. and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) of the Indian Penal Code.
Narsinghanand is out on bail in connection with the Haridwar case.
The event was organised by Preet Singh, founder of the Save India Foundation. Preet Singh who had been seen actively participating in the genocidal sloganeering at Jantar Mantar last year, had received bail in the case in September 2021.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Usha Rangnani said that no permission was granted for the event but the organiser, Preet Singh, still went ahead with it. The police have also booked Singh.
