A Hindu Mahant and hatemonger named Bajrang Muni Das who threatened Muslim women with rape in police presence has been arrested.

The arrest comes 11 days after he said that he will abduct Muslim women from their homes and rape them in the open if any Muslim man goes after Hindu women.

Bajrang Muni Das is the head of Maharshi Shri Lakshman Das Udasin Ashram in Khairabad.

A two-minute video of his speech on 2 April, where he is heard making rape threats, had gone viral last Friday.

The video was shot in front of a mosque “Sheshe Wali Masjid” in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur area during a procession on the occasion of Navratri and Hindu New Year.

“I am telling this to you with all the love that if a single Hindu girl is teased by you in Khairabad, I will openly bring your daughter and daughter-in-law out of your home and rape her,” Das said on a loudspeaker.

Mahant is a religious superior, in particular, the chief of a temple or the head of a monastery in Hinduism.

Only 7 days after the incident, the First Information Report against him was filed.

The video drew sharp criticisms from Muslim activists, Opposition leaders, and rights activists across the globe.
