In northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri area, 26-year-old Mohammed Israr, a Muslim man, succumbed to injuries after being tied to a pole and brutally assaulted by locals on Tuesday, 26 September 2023. The assailants falsely accused Israr of theft.

Israr’s father, Abdul Wajid, in his complaint, said that the attackers were from the nearby Sundar Nagri area. He contacted the police at 10:46 pm on Tuesday, informing them of his son’s demise at around 7 pm. Wajid found Israr outside their house on Tuesday morning, covered in injuries.

According to The Observer Post, Isaar had come to participate in a religious program, where he picked up the Prasad and ate it. This action provoked a Hindu mob, leading to a brutal assault that ultimately resulted in his death.

A distressing video has emerged, depicting Israr bound to a pole and surrounded by several youths who took turns striking him with batons, all while alleging that he had committed theft.

According to police, in immense pain, Israr informed his father that he had been mercilessly beaten with sticks after being tied to a pole by some youths who accused him of theft near the G4 block of the Sunder Nagri area around 5 am on Tuesday.

Following the incident, Israr was brought home in a rickshaw by a neighbor named Aamit. The deceased identified his attackers and relayed the information to his father. Based on the complaint, the police have initiated a manhunt for the accused.

Israr’s father stated that he brought his son home to tend to his injuries, but Israr died around 7 pm. Subsequently, he contacted the Police Control Room (PCR).

The police have sent the body for a postmortem examination, scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

A case of murder has been registered, and an active search is underway for the individuals responsible for the assault on Israr, police said.
