INDIA alliance to hold ‘maha rally’ in Delhi on 31 March to ‘safeguard democracy’

The INDIA alliance will hold a “maha rally” at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on March 31 to “safeguard the country’s interests and democracy,” AAP leader and Delhi Minister Gopal Rai announced on Sunday.

The announcement comes after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday from his official residence in connection with an excise policy-linked money-laundering case. Delhi Court sent the AAP supremo to the central agency’s custody till March 28.

“We will hold a ‘maha rally’ at Ramlila Maidan on March 31 against what is happening in the country. The top leadership of the INDIA bloc will participate in the event,” Rai said during a joint press conference with Delhi’s INDIA bloc leaders.

“None of our ministers and MLAs were allowed to meet Kejriwal during his arrest, and yesterday it was Shahidi Diwas we wanted to offer a tribute to Bhagat Singh, but there too we were treated like we are criminals,” Rai added.

“Democracy and the country are in danger. All the INDIA-bloc parties will hold this ‘maha rally’ to safeguard the country’s interests and democracy,” he added.

Arvinder Singh Lovely, the Congress’ Delhi unit chief, was also present at the press conference.

“The March 31 ‘maha rally’ will not only be a political one but a call to save the country’s democracy and raise voices against the BJP-led Centre,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party workers, led by Delhi Minister Atishi, held a protest against the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the capital’s Govindpuri area on Sunday.
