Jamaat-e-Islami Telangana supports 69 Congress, 41 BRS, 7 AIMIM candidates

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Telangana state unit announced its support for 69 candidates fighting on a Congress ticket and 41 candidates fighting the elections on BRS tickets.

“It is noteworthy that the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Telangana Chapter, is not aligning itself with any specific political party in these elections. Instead, the organisation extends its support to individual candidates based on recommendations from the local units,” the organisation stated.

The JIH also supported the candidates of seven All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidates, and one candidate each from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) as well as the Communist Party of India (CPI).

The decision was based on surveys from the organisation cadre who had gathered data from the ground and from the engagements with civil society organisations.

Telangana goes to polls on November 30. Counting is scheduled for December 3.

Meanwhile, prominent Islamic scholars and Imams of Hyderabad and Telangana have appealed to the people of the state to cast their vote keeping ‘secularism’ in mind.

In a statement, the Islamic scholars and imams have urged the Telangana Muslim community to “vote responsibly and avoid depending on a particular political party.”
