Jammu and Kashmir: Two arrested for social media posts on Babri Masjid

Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two individuals on January 22 for allegedly making comments about the demolished Babri Masjid and the construction of the Ram temple on the mosque site.

The cases have been filed in the districts of Reasi, Ramban, Rajouri and Kathua in the Jammu division and six persons have been booked so far.

One of those arrested has been identified as Zaffar Hussain, a resident of the Khanna Chargal village in the Jammu district, according to The Telegraph.

Reports suggested that the second individual taken into custody was identified as a female college student, a claim refuted by her family.

“She too has been booked but not arrested so far. Some other youths, however, have also been picked up for questioning. We have moved court for their bail,” the girl’s relative told The Telegraph. The relative further said the girl was a cousin of Zaffar and the two had posted some comments on the razed Babri Masjid.

“They were angry over the Babri Masjid’s demolition and construction of a temple at the place,” he said.
