A group of nine doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and other hospitals who had come in an ambulance with medical supplies to help the injured students, was attacked by Hindu militants outside Jawaharlal Nehru University’s main entrance gate on Sunday night.

The ambulance and doctors were not allowed to enter the campus.

The mob prevented doctors from helping the victims of the ABVP violence.

“The ambulances trashed in front of JNU maingate as police personnel stand numb. The mob clap in celebration as the ambulances leave,” Shaheen Abdulla, Maktoob journalist who was there at site reports.

“More than 100 masked Sangh Parivar goons attacked three ambulances with stones and lathis when they tried to enter the campus,” he said.

One ambulance, carrying two doctors and two volunteers, had just driven into the JNU around 9pm when it was surrounded by Hindu militant mob armed with rods and sticks. They prevented the ambulance from moving further inside.

“The mob pushed and manhandled the doctors and told them there was no need to provide medical assistance to anyone on the campus,” said doctor Harjit Singh Bhatti, national convener of the Progressive Medicos and Scientists Forum.
