Karnataka Election 2023: Voting in 224 assembly seats underway

Karnataka is going to polling booths today to select a new government, with both the BJP and Congress facing significant challenges.

The stakes are particularly high for the Congress, as there are 2,615 candidates competing for the 224 assembly constituencies. Polling is scheduled across 58,545 polling stations including auxiliary polling stations and a total of 42,48,028 new voters have been registered to vote for the elections.

As many as 5.3 crore voters are going to cast their vote in 58,545 polling stations in 37,777 locations, the Election Commission of India said. Of this, 11,71,558 are young voters and 12,15,920 are 80 senior citizen voters.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge today said the people of Karnataka have decided to choose a progressive, transparent and welfare-oriented government.
“People of Karnataka have decided that they shall choose a progressive, transparent & welfare-oriented government,” Mallikarjun Kharge said in a tweet.

Prime Minister Modi urged the people of Karnataka to vote in large numbers and enrich the festival of democracy.

PM Modi tweeted, “Urging the people of Karnataka, particularly young and first time voters to vote in large numbers and enrich the festival of democracy.”
