Congress’s Kaneez Fatima who is the lone Muslim woman in the Karnataka Assembly, defeated BJP’s Chandrakant B Patil to win the Karnataka Assembly elections from the Gulbarga North constituency.

Kaneez defeated her BJP rival by a margin of 2,712 votes.
In the 2018 state elections, Kaneez Fatima won in Gulbarga North, a constituency dominated by Muslims, by defeating Chandrakant Patil with a margin of 5,940 votes and a vote share of 43.29%.
