Karnataka Police files FIR against 11 activists over pro-Palestine protest

Hundreds of pro-Palestinan activosts from Karnataka joined the flash protest.

Eleven people are named in an FIR filed by Karnataka Police over organising a pro-Palestine demonstration near Bengaluru’s MG road joined by over 150 people. Maktoob got access to the FIR filed on Monday by Cubbon Park Police Station.

Police claim the organisers, activists of Bahutva Karnataka Sangathan, did not get permission for the event. In Bengaluru, protests are only allowed in Freedom Park.

The FIR is filed under Section 188 (Disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant), 283 (Danger or obstruction in a public way of line) 290 (Public nuisance), 291 (Continuance of nuisance after injunction), 149 (Unlawful assembly) of Indian Penal Code.

In a press conference, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda said, “A flash mob was organised with any information or permission. About 25 people have been taken into preventive custody and cases registered against them. They were also booked for public nuisance and blocking traffic. They mobilised themselves through WhatsApp. We will not allow any such protests in Bengaluru”.
