Manish Sisodia sent to Tihar Jail

Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, arrested in the liquor policy case, would be moved to Tihar Jail after a special court today sent him to judicial custody till March 20.

Sisodia was produced in the special court this afternoon after his CBI custody ended.

As requested by Sisodia’s counsel, Special judge MK Nagpal has directed the jail authorities to consider the request of keeping him in the meditation cell.

The court has allowed the AAP leader to carry medicines prescribed during his medical examination.

Sisodia has applied for bail and his request will be taken up on Friday. He was arrested on February 26 and sent to the CBI’s custody for five days. The court later extended the custody by two days.

The 51 year old politician has said in this bail petition that CBI officials were asking him the same questions over and over, and that was causing him mental harassment.

Last day, nind opposition leaders including four chief ministers shot off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday condemning the arrest of Sisodia by the CBI.

The leaders include Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Uddhav Thackeray, NCP’s Sharad Pawar, (AAP), Tejashwi Yadav (RJD), Farooq Abdullah (JKNC) and Akhilesh Yadav (SP).

“Sisodia’s arrest will be cited worldwide as an example of a political witch-hunt & further confirm what the world was only suspecting — India’s democratic values stand threatened under an authoritarian BJP,” the letter said.
