“Modi government mismanaged COVID-19, exported vaccine”: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi

Indian National Congress’s interim chief Sonia Gandhi on Saturday slammed the centre for vaccine shortage in the country. Gandhi, in a virtual meeting with Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states, took stock of the COVID-19 situation and preparedness as the country witness surge in coronavirus cases.

“The Modi government has mismanaged the situation – exported vaccine and allowed a shortage to be created in India,” said Sonia Gandhi during the virtual meet.

“Mass gatherings for elections and religious events have accelerated Covid for which all of us are responsible to some extent. We need to accept this responsibility and keep the interest of the nation above our own.”

Rahul Gandhi was also attending the meet.

Several states including Maharashtra, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, UP, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Bihar are facing vaccine shortages. PM Modi has called for a vaccine festival from April 11-14 but critics are angered by the shortage after India exported a large portion of vaccine allies for diplomatic ties.

During the meeting Mrs Gandhi said the priority should be to “test, track and vaccinate.”
