A chilling video from Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur showed that an eight-year-old Dalit child was dangled inside a well by a upper-caste Hindu man who suspected the Dalit kid of stealing his mobile.
The incident happened on Sunday in Aktoha village, 35 km from Chhatarpur district headquarters.
The viral video shows the terrified child pleading his innocence and begging to be spared but in vain.
The accused upper-caste Hindu man Ajeet Rajput, 31, has been arrested and booked for attempted culpable homicide.
“A case under IPC 308 and SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered against the accused on a complaint from the child’s family the same day. The accused was arrested and produced in court,” Chhatarpur SP Sachin Sharma said to the reporters.
Following the video went viral on social media, the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the Chhatarpur SP on the incident.
