“My arrest is illegal”: BRS leader K Kavitha sent to ED custody till March 23

A Delhi court on Saturday sent Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislator and daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, K Kavitha, to seven days Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.

The Telangana Legislative Council Member was arrested by the ED from Hyderabad on Friday.

Terming her arrest illegal, the BRS leader vowed to “fight it out”.

“My arrest is illegal,” she said.

“The arrest is a blatant abuse of power. They have violated the Apex Court orders,” said advocate Vikram Chaudhary who appeared for Kavitha before Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court.

He went on to say: “It is a black day in the administration of justice where the SC proceedings are violated… they said in front of the Court that they will not summon the accused till the next date of hearing. Following this they sought adjournments. The moment the senior judge (S K Kaul) retired, they started issuing summons to the accused.”

Meanwhile, BRS ranks staged demonstrations across Telangana on Saturday condemning the arrest of party leader.

Party activists raised slogans against Union government burning the effigy of the Prime Minister.
