My name is not Savarkar, it is Gandhi. won’t apologise: Rahul Gandhi

A day after key Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha, he said “I was disqualified because PM Narendra Modi is scared of my next speech on Adani… I can see it in his eyes”.

Gandhi on Saturday said that he was not afraid and would continue to raise questions about the links between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and businessman Gautam Adani.

“I will keep asking questions on Adani issue, they cannot scare me by disqualification or putting me in jail. I won’t back down,” he said.

When asked if he will apologise for his “Modi surname” remark in 2019, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “My name is not Savarkar, it is Gandhi and Gandhi never offers apology.

“Disqualify me for life, put me inside jail, but I will keep going,” former Congress chief said.

“Even if they disqualify me permanently, I will keep doing my work. it does not matter if I am inside the Parliament or not. I will keep fighting for the country,” he said.

Gandhi said, “My job is to defend the democratic nature of the country which means defending the institutions of the country, defending the voice of the poor people of the country and telling people the truth about people like Adani who are exploiting the relationship they have with the PM”.

Gandhi was disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha after his ‘Modi surname’ remark made in Karnataka in 2019. The development came a day after a trial court in Gujarat sentenced him to two years in jail in the criminal defamation case.
