Rahul Gandhi gets bail by Surat court in defamation case, next hearing on April 13

Congress former chief Rahul Gandhi was Monday granted bail by a Surat court in a defamation case over his 2019 remark about thieves with the surname Modi.

The sessions court will hear the matter on April 13, news agency PTI reported.

Gandhi reached the sessions court in Surat in the afternoon and filed an appeal aganst his conviction in the 2019 defamation case.

Last month, the 52 year old leader was sentenced to two years in prison in the case but the court had suspended his sentence for 30 days to allow him to appeal. A day later, Gandhi was disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha.

Unless the conviction against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is suspended, he will remain disqualified in Lok Sabha.
