Rajasthan Assembly passes Minimum Guaranteed Income Bill

The Rajasthan Assembly on Friday passed The Rajasthan Minimum Guaranteed Income Bill, 2023, which seeks to cover the entire adult population of the state with a guarantee of wages or pension.

The Rajasthan Minimum Guaranteed Income Bill, 2023, passed with voice vote, gives a guarantee for giving 125 days of employment in a financial year to all families residing in the rural and urban areas and a minimum pension of ₹1,000 every month to the elderly people, specially abled people and widows and single women.
There will also be guarantee of 15% annual increase in these pensions under the legislation.

Rajasthan is the first state “government which has brought an act with such guarantees and the first government which thinks about the poor and how inflation can be tackled,” said Parliamentary Affairs minister Shanti Dhariwal.

“You (the Opposition) are asking how will peoples’ income increase by giving them Rs 1,000 pension, how will they survive. I want to tell you that beyond this Rs 1,000 they are also getting free treatment up to Rs 25 lakh under Chiranjeevi Yojana, accident insurance up to Rs 10 lakh, free electricity up to 100 units – and up to 200 units for farmers, gas cylinder at Rs 500 and Annapurna Ration Kits; if we consider all these things, then their income will certainly increase,” the minister said.
