SC issues notice to UP govt, seeks status report on probe in student slapping case

The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and sought a status report from the Muzaffarnagar police regarding the probe into the horrific incident of a seven-year-old boy being slapped by fellow students on the instructions of their teacher at a private school in the district.

On August 24, Trapti Tyagi was caught in a video asking multiple Hindu students to slap a seven-year-old Muslim student. She was heard saying, “I have declared this, for every Mohammedan child.” The video of the incident went viral on social media.

The apex court was hearing a plea filed by activist Tushar Gandhi.

A bench of Justices A S Oka and Pankaj Mithal asked the Muzaffarnagar superintendent of police to inform it about the steps taken for the security of the boy who was subject to the harassment and his family.

After the video went viral, police booked the 60-year-old teacher and the district authorities sealed the private school located at Khubbapur village.
