Over 600 students in Jamia Millia Islamia University marched to Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar’s office on Tuesday demanding the withdrawal of the show-cause notice issued to five students.
The five students had participated in a demonstration against Israel being a country-partner for an event on campus. The students was participating in a protest demonstration on October 5 against the event “Global Health Zenith: Confluence’19” organised by the Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics. This event was carried out in collaboration with Israel as a country partner.

The students are on their ninth day of protest. The administration is refusing to pay them any heed. The protesters decided to gather at the VC’s office and demand their attention.
During the gathering, the students were manhandled by a group of miscreants. The student groups accused JMI’s administration of using violence against students.
“In the evening, dozens of hired goons violently attacked us. Many students got seriously injured while security guards kept watching all this silently. It’s a complete mayhem in Jamia where students are under continuous attack,” protesting students said.
“The goons dragged me into the road while security guards and university office staff stood quietly shielding the attackers,” Ladeeda Farzana, bachelor student at Jamia Millia Islamia said.
“The university staffs including higher officials were constantly targeting us for taking part in the protest,” Ladeeda alleges.
“This was a pre-planned attack on us and more than 25 students are injured,” an AISA activist told Maktoob.
“The attackers are sponsored by the varsity authority. We were brutally manhandled by them in-front of university faculties, staffs and guards,” Aysha Renna, one of the protesting students told Maktoob.
“Protests have been going on in the university campus for the last nine days, with we demanding revocation of showcause notices issued to five students, who participated in a protest against an invitation to Israeli delegates for an event,” Aysha told Maktoob.
“The students of Jamia had peacefully protested to express their disassociation with the invitation to Israel in the campus as we believe Israel is committing large scale human rights violation in Palestine,” Aysha said.
