UGC urge universities to stop admissions to MPhil

The University Grants Commission on Tuesday clarified that the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programs are no longer recognised and urged universities against offering the programme.

The notification was issued after some universities were found inviting fresh applications for the MPhil program.

“Regulation No. 14 of the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of PhD Degree) Regulations 2022 clearly states that Higher Educational Institutions shall not offer M.Phil. program,” states the notification.

Students are also advised not to take admission in MPhil Program.

According to the revised rules, students with a four-year undergraduate degree with a minimum of 75% marks or its equivalent grade will be eligible for a PhD programme.
