“Under whose watch Babri Masjid’s martyrdom happened?” KCR targets Congress in poll speech

Targeting the Congress, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday alleged that the party only used Muslims as vote bank and asked under whose watch the demolition of Babri Masjid happened.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi chief was addressing an election rally at Nizamabad.

In his speech, KCR made a veiled reference to Rahul Gandhi’s ‘mohabbat ki dukan’ comments. If one is secular, it should be reflected in one’s work, BRS leader said.

He asked: “We (BRS) treat everyone equally irrespective of religion and community. Congress had used you (Muslims) only as a vote bank. Even today, the Congress does drama. They say we will close the ‘dukaan’ (shop) of hate. I am asking under whose watch Babri Masjid’s martyrdom happened? Who got it done? It needs to be understood.”

KCR’s speech comes after the Congress accused the BRS and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) of being the BJP’s B and C teams, respectively.

Telangana Congress also released Minority Declaration, promising a host of sops and incentives for the minorities.

Muslims constitute around 13 per cent of the state population and are said to swing results in about one-third of the 119 Assembly constituencies.

The AIMIM and the BRS, though never in a formal alliance, are the closest allies.

The AIMIM has fielded nine candidates in Telangana in this election — seven of them in Hyderabad.
