UP: Class 9 student dies by suicide as school bars her from exam over non-payment of fees

A girl student of Class 9 died by suicide in a private school on 3 March in Bareilly of Uttar Pradesh.

She killed herself allegedly after the management of the school denied her taking an exam due to non-payment of fees.

The girl’s family members have alleged that the school authorities were responsible for her death.

The police have registered a case against the school management and are investigating the matter.

“A 9th-class student died allegedly by suicide after she was denied from taking an exam by the management of a private school in Durga Nagar due to failing to deposit fees,”said Rahul Bhati, SP City, according to ANI news agency.

“The body was sent for post-mortem. Further probe is underway,” he said.

“Due to some financial constraints, I was unable to deposit my daughter’s school fees,” said girl’s father Ashok Kumar, a resident of Baradari in his complaint to the police.

Kumar claimed that he had requested some time to submit the fees, but the school administration did not allow his daughter to take the exam on Friday.

He said his daughter was hurt and hanged herself upon returning home.
