A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi on Monday ordered that the pond used for ablution in the Gyanvapi Mosque complex be sealed amid reports that a “Shivling” has been found in it.
The Varanasi court ordered the district magistrate to seal the area and prohibit the entry of any person to the area. The DM, police commissioner, police commissioner and the CRPF commandant Varanasi are responsible for the security of the sealed area.
The order comes hours after the court-ordered video survey of the Gyanvapi mosque, as opposed by Muslim management, was completed.
The survey report must be submitted on coming Tuesday.
“Only 20 Muslims should be allowed to offer Namaz and They should also be stopped from performing Wudu immediately,” directs the order.
The direction comes after an advocate filed a petition in the court of civil judge senior division Ravi Kumar Diwakar seeking the area, where some concrete evidence was found, to be protected.
Meanwhile, a bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud will tomorrow hear the petition filed by Anjuman Masjid Committee against the Varanasi Court’s order directing the survey of Gyanvapi mosque.
