UP: Two dalit men flogged by caste Hindus for plucking chillies

Two Dalit men were brutally thrashed with sticks by four upper caste Hindu men for plucking chillies from their field at Miyuni village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district. Ajveer (25) and Jeetu (22) suffered injuries on their face, back and legs.

Neelam, Ajveer’s wife, was also assaulted while she tried to save her husband and her brother.

Neelam said, “Four men barged into my house and thrashed my husband and my brother alleging they had plucked chillies from their field.. They also attacked me. Our lives are in danger.”

An FIR has been registered against the four men in the matter.

The Dalit men also complained about police inaction. They said, they were not sent for medical examination and no FIR was registered when they had approached the police station after the incident took place on Wednesday. On Thursday, they went to the SP office and showed their injury marks to senior officials there after which the FIR was registered, reported Times of India.

An FIR has been registered on a complaint filed by Neelam against the accused – Kallu, Gopal, Sonu and Rajkumar, under IPC section 452 (House-trespass after preparation for
hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and SC/ST Act.
