Senior Advocate and All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) secretary Zafaryab Jilani passed away today in Lucknow after he suffered a head injury recently. He was 73.
He had suffered a brain hemorrhage about a year ago after slipping and falling.
Jilani represented Muslim parties in the Babri Masjid case in the Supreme Court.
Jilani has been associated with the Babri Masjid campaign since the early 80s. He was appointed as the first convenor of the Babri Masjid Action Committee after its inception in 1986. Apart from the Babri Masjid case, he had represented the All India Muslim Personal Law Board in several high profile cases.
He had also served as an Additional Advocate General (AAG) for the State of Uttar Pradesh.
