Water crisis in Bengaluru at all times worst, groundwater will be finished by 2020

With the onset of summers in the country, challenges are being posed on water supply in several areas. Among the worst affected by water crisis, Bengaluru is yet to find a way to fight the ensuing water crisis. Even after repeated warnings, there seems to be no end to water woes in Bengaluru.

According to reports, groundwater in Bengaluru will not be available by the year 2020. As the locals of Bengaluru are struggling to fight the dry spell, the administration seems to be inefficient in managing the water crisis. According to activists, the government needs to come up with a strong water policy.

Once known as the Garden City of India, Bengaluru is now struggling to provide water to its residents. TV Ramachandra, a professor at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), told Mirror Now that there is no way one can reach the groundwater resources. Ramachandra blamed 88 per cent reduction in green cover and 79 per cent reduction in water bodies to be the root cause of the ensuing water crisis.

A citizen activist, Sandeep Anirudhan said,”Benglauru is actually built from a desert to a green space because they understood local resilience.” According to Anirudhan, the only way to ensure water for everyone is through government policies.

A resident of Bengaluru shared her plight and said that due to constant power cuts, they are often left with no water. From not being able to bathe to not cooking being able to cook food, the water crisis is interfering with the daily lives of the residents.
