Qwik Supply Chain Private Limited, the third-largest donor of political parties under the now-scrapped electoral bonds scheme, has ties to the Reliance Group. The lesser-known company donated Rs 410 crores to political parties through electoral bonds.
The company gave away Rs 360 crore to political parties in the financial year 2021-22. In the financial year 2023-24, the company made donations of another Rs 50 crore.
Most interestingly, in the financial year this company donated Rs 360 crore, its net profit was only Rs 21.72 crores, according to a Reporters Collective’s report.
Qwik Supply Chain Private Limited has three directors: Vipul Pranlal Mehta, Sridhar Titti, and Tapas Mitra, all of whom have links to Reliance, according to the report.
Tapas Mitra is a director in 26 other companies, including partnership firms such as Reliance Eros Productions LLP. In his Linkedin profile, Mitra identifies himself as the Head of Accounts (Consolidation) at Reliance Industries Limited.
Another director, Vipul Pranlal Mehta, is also a director in a privately held company called Rel Icons and Traders Private Limited.
The third director in the company, Mahesh Mungekar, is also a director in other Reliance group companies, namely Reliance Telecom Limited and Reliance Communications Infrastructure Limited.
Complying with the directions of the Supreme Court, The Election Commission of India on Thursday uploaded on its website the data about the purchase and redemption of electoral bonds as received from the State Bank of India (SBI).
ECI said the State Bank of India had provided the data about the electoral bonds to the commission on March 12. While scrapping the Electoral Bond Scheme the Supreme Court directed the SBI to give the ECI the data.
SBI has shared two sets of data; one with the name of the purchaser, date and denomination of the bonds and the second one with the name of the political party, date and denomination of bonds encashed.
It is impossible to accurately link the donations by the entities to any political party. 1,368 crore were given as donations by Future Gaming And Hotel Services, the data shows.
