Video| Islamophobic song blares at Ram Temple celebration in UP’s Lucknow

A video from Hazratganj in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow showing a group of people dancing to an Islamophobic song has triggered outrage on social media. Critics of Hindutva politics shared the video to depict the anti-Muslim hate beneath the Ram Temple celebration.

The gathering is considered part of the nationwide celebration of the consecrated Ram Temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya on the site of the demolished Babri Masjid.

“Do listen to this song. To go to a Muslim locality and celebrate Ram Mandir inauguration with this song. And you still think this is about faith? Is this how you want to raise your kids? Is this the culture you want to normalise? Why send your kids to Ivy leagues, why give them quality education, let them be a part of this crass revelry,” Journalist Rana Ayyub wrote on Instagram about the video.

In response to the outrage, Lucknow Police have tweeted that the incident will be investigated. The video has garnered thousands of views on social media.

On Monday 22 January 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Hindu temple in Ayodhya upon the ruins of the Babri Masjid Mosque.
