Jharkhand: 35-year-old Adivasi man beaten to death by mob

A 35-year-old Adivasi man was lynched by a mob in Jharkhand on suspicion of theft on Thursday, 11 May.

Mithun Kherwar was tied up with a rope and was beaten by the villagers till he lost consciousness.

The incident occurred at Horedag village, on the outskirts of Ranchi.

“A team was rushed to the spot, which rescued the victim and admitted him to the nearby hospital where he died during treatment,” Superintendent of Police (Rural) Naushad Alam told The New Indian Express.

According to the police, a complaint was lodged against six identified individuals and 35 unnamed persons, under the appropriate legal provisions. Furthermore, a Special Investigation Team has been formed to investigate the matter thoroughly.

As of now, the police have apprehended six suspects who have been remanded to custody.

Thursday’s incident comes a month after a 20-year-old Muslim man named Wajid Ansari was lynched by a Hindu mob in Ranchi on false suspicion of theft.
