Google Doodle commemorates Sridevi’s enduring legacy on her 60th birth anniversary

To mark the 60th birth anniversary of the late actor Sridevi, Google on Sunday paid tribute by featuring a vibrant illustration of the actor crafted by Mumbai-based artist Bhumika Mukherjee.

Google states, “Sridevi forever made her mark on the film industry by charting new avenues for women to take on leading roles in Indian cinema. She will be remembered as one of the greatest Indian actors of her time.”

The recipient of the Padma Shri award, she left an indelible impression with remarkable performances in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada cinema as well.

Sridevi breathed her last on February 24, 2018

Sridevi started acting at the age of four years, her first film was a Tamil movie named Kandhan Karunai in 1967. Born Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan in 1963, she is renowned for her iconic roles in Hindi classics like ‘Chandni’, ‘Lamhe’, ‘Mr India’, ‘Chaalbaaz’, ‘Nagina’, ‘Sadma’, and ‘English Vinglish’, among others.

During the early 2000s, Sridevi temporarily stepped away from the world of acting. However, she made a striking return with the 2012 movie “English Vinglish”. In addition to her film career, she graced television screens with shows like “Malini Iyer” in 2004 and “Kaboom.”

Her exceptional contributions were acknowledged by the Indian government in 2013 when she was bestowed with the Padma Shri award. Subsequently, her role in the crime thriller ‘Mom’, portraying a fiercely protective mother, garnered her the National Film Award for Best Actress in 2017.
