Man Utd trashes Southampton 9-0, levels point with title rival Man City

Manchester United hammered Southampton side 9-0 at Old Trafford on Tuesday night equalizing record win and level on points with Man City at the top of the Premier League.

United equalled the previous mark for largest margin of victory in the Premier League, which the club originally set in 1995 with a 9-0 win over Ipswich Town.

The visitors were forced to play almost the entire game with 10 men after Southampton’s Alexandre Jankewitz – making his first Premier League start – was shown the red card for a challenge in the second minute of the game.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side saw seven different players score in the game with four in the first half and five goals in the second half. To make things worse red card for Bednarek made Saints two men short to fight the Red Devils.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka scored on the 18th minute followed by Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani before the half time whistle. In the second half, Reds made a killer performance with Anthony Martial scoring two goals, one to McTominay and one each to Bruno Fernandes and Daniel James.

For Ralph Hassenhütl this is a second 9-0 defeat his team has suffered in consecutive seasons.

Manchester United level on 44 points with Man City at the top of the table, but Pep Guardiola’s side are ahead on goal difference and also have two games in hand over their city rivals. Liverpool Fc is now third on the table with 40 points
