Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi opposing the proposed amendments to the Indian Administrative Service (Cadre) Rules 1954, alleging that the changes will give overriding powers to the Union government to post bureaucrats to Central Ministries and departments without the State government’s nod.

Of the total funds given to states under Union government’s "most celebrated" scheme Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, 78.91% have been used for advertisements, a parliamentary committee told Lok Sabha on Thursday.

The Union government on Tuesday told the Parliament that it spent Rs 1,698.89 crore on advertisements in the print and electronic media between 2018 and 2021.

Two weeks after at least 15 mosques were attacked by Hindutva groups RSS, VHP, and Bajrang Dal across Tripura in week-long violence against Muslims, the Union government on Saturday issued a statement asserting that no mosque has been damaged in Tripura in the recent past and that there were no reports of injury, rape or death in any clash in the state.
