Twenty-six-year-old Dalit man Binod Das, died in a hospital in Bihar’s Bhagalpur on 21 July, 12 days after he was admitted there following physical torture in police custody.

Dalit Christians in Tamil Nadu have staged a protest against caste discrimination in the Catholic Church ahead of the consecration of Bishop Arulselvam Rayappan in Salem.

"The brutal attack happened in front of several villagers, but nobody intervened," says brother of a 22-year-old Dalit boy Ravindra who was killed by three upper caste Hindu men in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh on Wednesday.

"I feel the recent resignation of the Assistant Professor from the same Humanities and Social Sciences department is substantiating our claim of caste and religious discrimination in the campus," says Ayisha Latheef, twin sister of Fathima Latheef, a first-year Master’s student at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, who was found dead in her hostel room on 9 November in 2019 following she had faced religious discrimination from her professors.

Another case of casteism has now come to light from one of India's premier institutes, IIT. Vipin Pudiyath Veetil, an assistant professor in Indian Institute of Technology-Madras resigned alleging caste discrimination.

Basavaraj Madivalapaa Badiger (19) an auto-rickshaw driver from the Dalit community and Davalbi Bandagisab Tambad (18) a Muslim girl were brutally killed by the girl’s family, in what police said was a suspected case of “honour killing” in Vijayapura district of North Karnataka on Tuesday.
