Dalit Christians in Tamil Nadu have staged a protest against caste discrimination in the Catholic Church ahead of the consecration of Bishop Arulselvam Rayappan in Salem.

The Supreme Court has a monumental opportunity now to render justice to millions of Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims who continue to suffer from social stigma and the horrors of untouchability, said Rev. Asir Ebenezer, General Secretary of the National Council of Churches in India (NCCI) on Sunday.

Kevin Joseph was found dead in Kollam city on May 28, just three days after he married Neenu. The police had arrested the father, brother and three other relatives of the woman. In all, the police have charged 14 people with Joseph’s murder.
