The Uttar Pradesh court in Mathura on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of Campus Front of India (CFI) national secretary Rauf Shareef, who has been arrested by UP Police in connection with a case of funding and stirring up protests after the rape and murder of the Dalit woman by upper-caste Hindu men in Hathras.

Apprehending threat to life, the woman whose father was shot dead in Hathras in Uttar Pradesh by a man accused of molesting her, demanded a license to purchase and keep a gun.

“First, he molested me and now he has shot my father. He had come to our village. There were six-seven people. My father had no enmity against anyone. His name is Gaurav Sharma.”

Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested Campus Front of India national secretary Rauf Shareef in a case registered against journalist Siddique Kappan and three others in Mathura a day after Shareef was granted bail by the Special Court for Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in an Enforcement Directorate (ED) case.

On January 28, Mathura jail officials allowed a 10-minute video call for Siddique Kappan, a journalist booked under draconian UAPA, to see his 90-year-old ailing mother, Khadeeja Kutty. Although her son appeared on a small mobile screen, Khadeeja was not conscious to make a conversation. Due to dementia, she kept losing herself as time ran out merciless.

Lok Sabha member from Kollam constituency and senior UDF leader N.K Premachandran alleged that there was a larger conspiracy behind the arrest of the Malayali journalist Siddique Kappan who was arbitrarily picked by Uttar Pradesh police under draconian UAPA in Hathras conspiracy case.
