“I need a gun for my survival,” Hathras woman whose father killed by molester seeks license

The woman shouldering her father to graveyard.

Fearing a threat to life, the woman whose father was shot dead in Hathras in Uttar Pradesh by a man accused of molesting her, demanded a license to purchase and keep a gun.

Her lawyer applied for police security claiming threat from the accused, Gaurav Sharma, in the past, Times of India reported.

“He has not been arrested even after many days of the incident. I am feeling scared. Anything could happen with us,” the woman told the presser.

“I need a firearm for my survival. As of now, I have police security but what would happen tomorrow when the security will be withdrawn,” TOI quoted the woman as saying.

The woman also criticised the police inaction.

She said: “I had called the local police station to come at the spot after an altercation with Guarav Sharma and his family, as they had threatened us of dire consequences. But the policeman had asked me to call emergency number 112. Had they acted on time, my father would have been alive today.”

The woman claimed that she had been threatened by Gaurav Sharma in June 2019 against pursuing this case.

“Gaurav Sharma is a criminal and could do anything. I travel daily to court from my village. And I believe that he could do anything to me. So I have asked security,” she added.

After the incident, the police arrested three accused (Rohitash Sharma, Nikhil Sharma, and Lalitesh Sharma) in connection with the killing of the 50-year old man, who had filed a police complaint regarding his daughter’s molestation. However, the prime accused Gaurav Sharma is still at large. Gaurav Sharma was briefly jailed in 2018 on the molestation charge and has since been out on bail.

Meanwhile, Hathras police announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on any information leading to Sharma’s arrest.
