International Press Institute (IPI) has called calls for the immediate release of Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan, and strongly condemned "the unacceptable ill-treatment he has received at the hands of the authorities as well as the apparent deprivation of his basic due process rights."

Committee to Protect Journalists has urged Uttar Pradesh government authorities to drop their criminal investigations into journalists Nidhi Suresh, Manoj Shukla, and Yashwant Singh, and cease harassing members of the press over their work.

The Sadar Bazar police in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur have registered an FIR against Newslaundry journalist Nidhi Suresh pursuant to a defamation complaint filed by journalist Deep Srivastava, after Nidhi had written a report containing allegations of a woman named Ayesha Alvi that she was harassed by the journalist Srivastava after her conversion to Islam.

Zakir Ali Tyagi, independent journalist and vice president of rights group NCHRO has been booked by Uttar Pradesh police under the Goondas Act.

“I was passionate about reporting and always thought of it as an ideal career choice but then, my parents were worried about the repressive state of Journalism in Kashmir,” Zeeshan said. “I could do nothing but follow their decision.”

The Committee to Protect Journalists, an independent, nonprofit organisation that promotes press freedom worldwide, welcomed the decision by a court in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district to drop a breach of peace charge against Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan, and urged authorities to drop all other charges against him and release him immediately.
