JNU discriminates SC, ST, OBC, Muslim students in PhD entrance: Student groups

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), India's top-ranked university for several years is reportedly discriminating PhD applicants from SC, ST, OBC, and Muslim categories by giving low marks in interviews.

About 33% of Muslims, 21% of Dalits, 22 % of Adivasis, and 15% of OBCs in India have experienced discrimination on the basis of their religion and caste in hospitals, according to a survey by NGO Oxfam India.

27% reservation for OBCs, 10% for EWS in medical courses

Medical and dental courses in the country will have a 27 percent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), 10 percent for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) under the All India Quota Scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Thursday following a long-standing demand from OBC communities and organisations to give OBC reservation in all-India quota of medical education.
