Stepping up the demand for reservation for Muslims in Maharashtra, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi cited that while 83 percent of the community in Maharashtra were landless, only 8 percent of the Marathas were landless.

Medical and dental courses in the country will have a 27 percent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), 10 percent for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) under the All India Quota Scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Thursday following a long-standing demand from OBC communities and organisations to give OBC reservation in all-India quota of medical education.

Requesting for the speedy disposal of a 2015 writ petition which pertains to the OBC reservation in All India Quota in Medical Education, writer and journalist Dilip Mandal has written a letter to the Chief Justice of India, Justice N.V. Ramana.

Senior Congress politician and Opposition Leader of Telangana Legislative Council, Mohammed Ali Shabbir has said that the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments must take immediate legal measures to protect the 4 per cent Muslim quota in jobs and education sector, warning of a threat to the continuance of the quota in the wake of the recent Supreme Court verdict.

A demand was raised by student organisation Fraternity Movement, that the Supreme Court of India should revisit 50% reservation limit and implement population based proportionate reservation.

The restive applicant alleged that he was not been shortlisted for the post of an Assistant Professor despite being eligible.
