Haryana police have charged over 100 farmers with draconian sedition after they allegedly attacked the official vehicle of BJP politician and Deputy Speaker Ranbir Gangwa during the protest against state's saffron party led government and the Narendra Modi government's farm laws on 11 July.

In the wake of criticisms against Lakshadweep Union Territory administrator Praful Khoda Patel and contentious regulations on the islands, the Kavaratti Police registered a case of sedition on Thursday against Aisha Sultana, a filmmaker and actor from island and one of the dissenters at the helm of the protests over her remarks against Patel's mismanagement of COVID-19 pandemic in the islands.

The Congress in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday accused the Narendra Modi government of misusing the sedition law, while referring the arrest of 22-year-old climate activist Disha Ravi by the Delhi police in connection with the ongoing farmers' agitation.

"If highlighting farmers’ protest globally is sedition, I am better in jail," the climate activist Disha Ravi told a Delhi court via her lawyer Saturday, stating that there is no evidence to link her with Sikhs For Justice, a banned organisation.

The Fraternity Movement on Friday condemned the hate campaigns and registration of FIRs against its national secretary Sharjeel Usmani after he delivered a speech at Elgar Parishad 2021, saying "these perpetual hate campaigns are intended to languish the vocal Muslim youth in jail permanently."

An FIR under several charges, including sedition, has been registered against Muslim student activist and Fraternity Movement national secretary Sharjeel Usmani in Lucknow’s Hazratganj police station in connection with his speech at the Elgaar Parishad conclave last month.
