“Ahora nos volvimos a ilusionar,” Argentina’s fans sing on eve of WC final

“Muchachos, Ahora Nos Volvimos a Ilusionar,” (Boys, we have our hopes up again): hundreds of Argentines sang in the buzzing street of Souq Waqif on Saturday, the eve of the World Cup finale.

Argentina is set to play reigning champions France at Lusail Stadium on Sunday evening. It will also mark the last World Cup match of Lionel Messi, the captain of Albicelestes who is considered as Greatest Footballer of All Time.

“This time is for Messi. It’s for Argentina,” says Martin Arditi, a fan from Argentina. He predicts the score, 2-0 in favour of the Blue and white.

The Albiceleste last won the World Cup in 1986, when Maradona led the team to victory.

The Latin American team is popular across the World through their legendary players. Lionel Messi’s presence and their run up to World Cup makes made them one among the favourites of the tournament.

“Messi will assist,” a fan said, reflecting the 35-year-old’s one role in the team as a playmaker. Messi has the most number of assist and most number of goals in the tournament so far. He won the man of the match in all matches he played in Qatar.

“Alvarez will score,” one among the blue and white shirt said predicting the score, 3-1. “Mbappe,” they looked at each other and said.

France lost half a dozen key players due to injuries but dominated in every match. France will give a tough time for Argentina and perhaps will their second consecutive trophy.
