At least 40 killed in Moscow concert hall shooting, ISIS claims responsibility

At least 40 people were killed and 145 wounded on Friday after gunmen opened fire on concertgoers near Moscow in one of the deadliest attacks on Russia in decades. Reports said the assailants also used explosives, causing a massive blaze at the Crocus City Hall.

Islamic State (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for an attack, the group’s Amaq agency said on Telegram.

At least five gunmen began shooting civilians cowering in the hall just before the rock group “Picnic” was about to perform to a full house at the 6,200-seat theatre in a suburb west of Moscow.

Last week, the US and British embassies had posted a warning on their websites about a possibility of a terror attack in Moscow.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said “Ukraine certainly has nothing to do with the shooting/explosions in the Crocus City Hall.”
