Over 1.6 billion coronavirus vaccine shots have been given across globe, figures compiled by Our World in Data showed on Saturday.
China was the most vaccinated country with 466.7 million jabs, followed by the US with more than 281.6 million.
India has administered 187.89 million jabs.
The UK has administered 59.18 million, and Brazil 56.54 million.
Germany has reported giving 44.39 million shots, France 31.54 million, Italy 29.97 million and Turkey 27.73 million.
The list continues with Russia, Mexico, and Indonesia.
The country with the most doses administered by population was the East African island nation of Seychelles, with 134.39 doses per 100 people.
Our World in Data’s vaccination dataset uses the most recent official numbers from governments and health ministries worldwide.
‘Tragic’
Africa has so far administered just over 25 million COVID-19 vaccine doses, or 1.5% of the doses given worldwide, the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Saturday.
“And this is tragic,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a meeting of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union on access to vaccines against the coronavirus for the African continent.
In the past two weeks, we are seeing some progress … with a good number of countries committing to share and equitable distribution of vaccines, but vaccine nationalism still holds us back, ” Tedros added.
There are over 4.7 million confirmed coronavirus cases on the African continent with more than 4.2 million recoveries and 126,000 deaths, according to WHO figures.
Since December 2019, the pandemic has claimed over 3.44 million lives in 192 countries and regions, with more than 166.23 million cases reported worldwide, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
